Why does every wooden gift look the same?

We kept finding the same mass-cut boards with the same fonts burned into them — sold as "personalized" because someone typed a name into a box.

Aurorely makes the opposite: wooden gifts that hold a name, a date, or a few words that matter, and keep them for decades.

Most gifts get used up, worn out, or quietly given away. Very few survive a move, let alone a generation. The ones that do usually have one thing in common — someone's name on them.

Our journey

2023

We started on Etsy

Two designs, one engraver, a spare room. Every order packed at a kitchen table.

MILESTONE

First 100 orders

Mostly book trackers. Mostly bought as gifts. That told us what we were actually making: not decor, but something people hand to each other.

2026

Aurorely opens

Same makers, same workshop, our own storefront — so we can offer designs Etsy never let us list.

TODAY

Same hands, more orders

5,000+ orders shipped, and the same four pairs of hands doing the work.

    Inside the workshop

One room, a laser engraver, and stacks of hardwood sorted by grain.

We keep birch, oak, maple and walnut on hand and pick the board after we read your order — a short name sits better on birch, a long quote needs the darker walnut to stay readable.

Nothing here is made in advance. When your order comes in, a blank is selected, sanded, and engraved with exactly the text you submitted, character for character.

    • 01 — Design

Drawn by hand, then redrawn until it works at real size. Nothing is scaled up from a stock file.

    • 02 — Wood selection

Solid hardwood chosen board by board — birch, oak, maple, walnut. Never veneer, never composite.

    • 03 — Cutting

Cut to size and shaped, edges rounded so nothing catches when you pick it up.

    • 04 — Engraving

Burned into the grain, not printed on top. It cannot rub off, fade, or peel.

    • 05 — Sanding

By hand, through three grits, until the surface is smooth enough to run a thumb across.

    • 06 — Oil and pack

Sealed with natural oil rather than lacquer, so the grain stays visible and warm. Wrapped in kraft paper by hand.

      The people behind it

We are a small team. One of us draws the designs, one runs the engraver, one sands and finishes every piece, and one packs the boxes — and all of us read the messages you send.

Our shop is small on purpose. We would rather make a hundred pieces we are proud of than a thousand we never look at.

      • Made to order, never in bulk

Nothing sits in a warehouse. We cut your piece after you order it — which is why it takes a few days longer, and why it is yours.

      • Wood over plastic

Wood darkens, softens, and picks up the marks of being used. A printed mug looks identical on day one and day one thousand — until it chips.

      • Personal by default

Free engraving on every piece. Not an upsell, not a checkbox. It is the whole point.
